Fostering is housing a dog temporarily, ranging from days to weeks to months. Timelines vary based on the foster's availability and the dog's needs. Fostering allows the animal to decompress and build trust in an environment that is similar to where they will be in their adoptive homes. Many of our rescues have not been exposed to indoor environments.
We are always in need of foster homes to ensure that our animals have a safe place to stay until they are adopted. If you are interested in fostering an animal, please fill out a foster application on our website. We provide all necessary supplies and medical care for the animal. Most expenses are covered by the rescue.
Foster-to-Adopt is our program for those interested in adopting, but require more time to see if the animal is the right fit for their home/lifestyle. There is no commitment until the foster decides to submit an adoption application, but the animal will remain in your home until that decision is made. This is a great way to test the bond between you and the animal and the environment prior to making big commitments.
We recommend that you spend time with an animal before adopting to make sure they are a good fit for your family. We offer meet and greets at the shelter, in foster homes, and with other family pets to make sure everyone gets along. Our team is also happy to help find a match for you.
There are many ways to donate to our shelter! Our shelter is entirely run on donations, making this a vital part of keeping this organization going.
You can donate online through our website (Zeffy link on home page), mail a check to our address, or drop off supplies in person. We are always in need of food, toys, blankets, and other supplies.
Our adoption fees vary, but typically range from $350-$600. You can find our full list and breakdown of fees on our ADOPT page.
Throw Me A Bone rescues dogs and cats in Ontario, pulling from shelters, partnering with Northern communities where vetting is scarce, and working with nearby Indigenous communities.
First, you will need to fill out an adoption application. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meeting with you and the animal you are interested in. If the meeting goes well, you can take the animal home with you that day.
All dogs are fully vetted before going to their forever homes. This means they have had all their age appropriate shots and been dewormed and treated for any parasites. All dogs over 6 months of age are spayed or neutered before going home. Puppies under 6 months being adopted on a spay/neuter contract will have $200 returned to owner once the surgery is complete.
